I think that the Stomach Flu has to be one of the absolute crappy things that both adults and children alike go through. No one simply enjoys crapping his or her brains out or puking violently. Of course, with both of those very unpleasant scenarios, the likelihood of you become dehydrated is extremely high. Due to my absolute hate for the stomach flu both for my children and me, I have come up with a beautiful tea that helps calm the stomach and intestinal track as well as replenish the body. This tea consists of Slippery Elm, Marshmallow, Chamomile, Spearmint and Cinnamon.

Ingredients:

Slippery Elm is a very gentle herb that works to smooth over any mucus membranes that it comes in contact with. It is extremely helpful to the intestines as it helps reduce inflammation AND can work to both soften stools AND add bulk depending on what your body needs. It is a go to for almost any and all stomach issues.

Marshmallow Root is another very gentle herb that works to smooth over mucus membranes. Along with coating mucus membranes to promote healing, it also is highly anti-inflammatory, which helps ease stomach issues. Furthermore, Marshmallow Root has the ability to literally engulf bacteria and dead cell tissues, which again, promotes healing. It is a wonderful help in soothing an irritated stomach, intestinal tract, and throat.

Chamomile is yet another anti-inflammatory herb. It works as a muscle relaxer, anti-microbial, and a mild (very mild) sedative. All of these things combined work with your digestive system (especially your stomach) to help calm things down and keep the vomiting at bay. Plus, it tastes pleasant. It also promotes rest, which is absolutely what your body will need to recover.

Spearmint is such a beautiful, gentle herb that works as an anti-spasmodic and muscle relaxant that helps bring a cooling sensation and reduce vomiting.

Cinnamon is a great tasting herb that works as a powerful anti-bacterial. It works quickly to help relieve acid in the stomach. Furthermore, there have been studies that have shown that it actively will fight the stomach virus itself.

Directions:

This is loose leaf tea in a small bakers bag. This bag will make several cups of tea. To prepare, boil roughly 8 oz of water and pour over the tea ball. Let sit for 15-20 minutes and then drink. This tea is best drank warm.

Drink as needed to alleviate stomach issues while sick. As a preventative for chronic stomach issues, drink one cup daily.
